Fionnuala Gygax to Star in The Whiteheaded Boy at the Abbey Theatre

We are delighted to announce that our client Fionnuala Gygax has been cast as Jane in the Abbey Theatre's forthcoming production of The Whiteheaded Boy, opening in Dublin this summer.

Our warmest congratulations to Fionnuala on joining the cast of this much-anticipated revival on the stage of Ireland's national theatre.

About the production

Written by Lennox Robinson and directed by Annie Ryan, The Whiteheaded Boy is one of the great comedies of the Irish canon. First staged at the Abbey 110 years ago, it remains a sharp, affectionate portrait of family life in small-town Ireland, a generational tug-of-war played out around the kitchen table of the Geoghegan household, where the favoured son Denis returns from his medical studies in Dublin to news that threatens to upend the family's carefully maintained standing.

Threats, bribes, deportations and counter-bribes follow, as the family rewrite Denis's fate to suit themselves — while the women of the household look on with rather different ideas of their own.

Annie Ryan's new production reimagines Robinson's classic with a contemporary sensibility and what the Abbey describes as a feminist wink to the original — drawing fresh attention to the women who, in the world of the play, are too often spoken over.

Fionnuala joins a wonderful company including Clare Barrett, Andrew Bennett, Charlotte Cleary, Anna Healy, Genevieve Hulme-Beaman, Peter McGann, Teddy Moore, Malua Ní Chléirigh, Michael Tient and Ben Waddell.

About the Abbey Theatre

Founded in 1904 by W.B. Yeats and Lady Augusta Gregory, the Abbey Theatre is Ireland's national theatre and one of the most storied stages in the English-speaking world. To play the Abbey is a significant moment in any actor's career, and we are immensely proud to see Fionnuala step onto that stage.
